Toji Fushiguro, aka the Sorcerer Killer, is the most feared name among sorcerers, second only to Gojo Satoru and Ryomen Sukuna, the King of Curses himself. Many characters in the novel regard him as a mysterious figure. Let’s take a look at some lesser-known facts about the intriguing assassin.
1. Toji Fushiguro Comes From The Zenin Family
Toji was born into one of the three great sorcerer families, the Zenin family, despite his last name. The Zenin Family values powerful cursed tactics so much that they will even reject members of their own family if their strength isn’t up to par. Toji, like Maki, was born with no cursed energy due to divine constraints, but he possessed enormous physical strength.
Toji, like Maki Zenin, has been harmed by the interests of the sorcerer clans. Toji eventually left the Zenin clan and gave up the Zenin name after being ostracized and harassed. He became a mercenary and assassin, marrying a woman with the surname Fushiguro and adopting it for himself.
2. Toji Was A Mercenary Assassin
Toji became a hire-for-money assassin shortly after leaving the Zenin family. He is unconcerned with his clients’ motivations as long as the money is good. Furthermore, he rarely performs extra work for free.
Even the most skilled sorcerers are fooled by his jujutsu knowledge garnered from living with the Zenin family. His schemes are audacious and recklessly devised. This gained him a large enough reputation for the rich Time Vessel Association to hire him for such an important task during Gojo’s Past Arc.
3. Megumi Had Never Met His Father
Toji Fushiguro was not a man who cared about his family. Megumi recalls his father marrying his mother and leaving nearly quickly after Megumi was born in a scene from Jujutsu Kaisen’s first season. He sold their son to the Zenin family because he trusted in young Megumi’s aptitude to be a true sorcerer, and he named him “Megumi,” which means “blessings” in Japanese. Megumi has never met his father and is likely unaware that he is dead, or rather that he was murdered by his tutor, Gojo Satoru.
4. Toji Is Dead
Toji was able to complete his final mission for the Time Vessel Association during Gojo’s Past Arc. When confronted with a resurgent Satoru Gojo, however, Tojo chose not to flee. He detested the jujutsu world and the sorcerer families, so he attempted to assassinate the world’s most powerful sorcerer as a means of retaliation. Unfortunately, Toji’s pride cost him his life.
Toji, in line with his icy manner, chose not to say anything final at first. In his final moments, he, strangely, thought of his ex-wife and their child.
In a few years, he assured Satoru, Megumi would be sold to the Zenin family. Satoru would thereafter become Megumi’s close mentor in the future, as well as offering Megumi the chance to work as a jujutsu sorcerer.
5. Toji Fushiguro Was Reanimated From The Dead
Granny Ogami’s Séance Technique brought Toji’s soul back to life during the Shibuya Arc, transforming him into a walking carnage manifestation. He’d go after anything that was in his way, with a special focus on crushing the most powerful opponent he could find.
He came across Megumi during his frenzy and was on the verge of crushing his son. Toji, however, overcame the cursed technique by sheer resolve and committed suicide in order to protect Megumi.
He did it without ever mentioning their connection. Toji expressed his satisfaction that Megumi refers to himself as a Fushiguro rather than a Zenin in his leaving comments in a bittersweet moment.
6. Zero Cursed Energy
According to Yuki Tsukumo, another special grade sorcerer, Toji was the only case where a Heavenly Restriction completely cleansed someone’s cursed energy. After eliminating all cursed energy, Toji’s physique was polished to the point that he gained a resistance to curses and was able to identify them using his highly trained five senses.
He could also command and manipulate a cursed spirit, which he could use to store his huge arsenal of weapons. Yuki thought he was great and told Suguru that losing a fight to him was nothing to be embarrassed of.
7. Toji Played An Important Role In The Shibuya Arc
Toji was resurrected by Granny Ogami’s Séance Technique during the events of the Shibuya Arc. At the start of his out-of-control rampage, Toji killed Ogami with a single attack and nearly killed grade 2 sorcerer Takuma Ino with his own hands.
He also battled Dagon, a cursed spirit of a specific grade, alone and defeated him totally. Maki, together with grade 1 sorcerers Kento Nanami and Naobito Zenin, as well as Maki alone, were unable to break Dagon’s spell. Toji, on the other hand, made exorcizing Dagon appear easy, solidifying his reputation as a special grade.
Soon after, Toji contacted Megumi, who compared Toji to a fully completed Maki. Toji’s swift win over Dagon’s curse, in particular, aided our heroes in turning the tide in their favor.
